Deep research into Ireland’s health is rare enough. That makes the figures emerging from the Health Research Board linking deaths in home fires with the consumption of alcohol both frightening and revelatory. The data shows 106 deaths in house fires over 2014 to 2016. Just over half of the victims were found to have had alcohol in their blood, and many were well over the legal driving limit.
