Newspapers should be upbeat at times, celebratory and laudatory. Even columnists. Here goes. How wonderful that beyond the national and domestic headlines of doom there’s always sport, which helps to keep us all sane.

Next weekend, Ireland’s sports fans will fix their attention on Bilbao in Spain as Leinster attempt to win their fourth European championship. Given the extraordinary quality of their semi-final demolition of Scarlets, it’s easy to imagine they’ll succeed....
