The Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) has criticised the minister for health Leo Varadkar over his suggestion that private companies could take up certain functions in public hospitals.
Dr Ray Walley, the president of the IMO, described the suggestions as ‘grossly insensitive’ and ‘ill conceived’ and as an attempt by the government to avoid responsibility for the consequences of years of austerity in the health services.
