Where did it all go wrong for universal health insurance?

First it was 2016. Then 2019. Now universal health insurance, the government’s panacea for the health service, is dead in the water.

As for equitable access for all, or universal healthcare: there is no timetable, never mind an implementation plan.

Dr Ray Walley, president of the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO), said the government’s promotion of universal health insurance was one of the biggest cases of “political mis-selling” in recent history.
