The cystic fibrosis drug Orkambi – to which Irish CF sufferers have pleaded for access – has been deemed “minimally effective” by the medical expert charged with recommending whether the state should fund it or not.

Professor Michael Barry, who heads up the National Centre for Pharmacoeconomics (NCPE), warned that the pivotal clinical trial raised “serious questions over the efficacy” of Orkambi.
