Publicly-funded hospitals saw 678 patient claims last year

Four per cent rise in claims brings number of patient-related cases open at State Claims Agency to more than 3,000

Some 678 patient claims were made against publicly funded hospitals in 2015, new figures show.

That represented a 4 per cent rise on the 651 cases lodged in 2014.

The State Claims Agency (SCA) said it had 3,122 active patient-related claims under management at the end of March 2016, up from 2,844 at the end of 2014.
