The Dublin Bay South by-election is approaching fast and there is no end in sight to the row over the ownership of the site for the National Maternity Hospital.

At Leaders’ Questions, all four opposition speakers focused on the proposed deal to build the new hospital on a site in St Vincent’s Hospital, which is owned by the Sisters of Charity.

The temperature has risen due to the statement issued by St Vincent’s Hospital Group, ruling out any prospect of selling the site to the state. That has upped the pressure on the government because the opposition is intent on making it a key issue in the by-election, as I have written previously.
