Varadkar maternity task force has met just once in 18 months

The group charged with developing an implementation plan for the 2016 National Maternity Strategy has met just once in the last 18 months, the Department of Health has confirmed.

The strategy – Creating a Better Future Together – was set up by former Health Minister, Leo Varadkar in January 2016, in response to a number of baby deaths at Portlaoise Hospital, and the death of Savita Halappanavar at University Hospital Galway.
