The state is to appeal the landmark ruling by Mr Justice Kevin Cross in the case of Ruth Morrissey, the Limerick woman who is terminally ill with cervical cancer.

The State Claims Agency (SCA) will apply tomorrow to the Supreme Court for leave to appeal the judgment, which was handed down last month and which saw Morrissey and her husband Paul awarded €2.1 million in compensation.
