Reilly targets areas with shortage of pre-school places

Around 13,000 places will be needed to meet the budget commitment of a second free year from next September

Minister for Children James Reilly has set up a mapping exercise to identify areas with a shortage of places for the second pre-school year allowed for in the budget.

New figures from his department show that even though there are 10,000 empty places in pre-schools, a total of 13,000 places will be needed to meet the budget commitment of a second free year from next September.
