Price of new Hep C drugs ‘unsustainably high’

Manufacturers charging HSE between €45,000 and €80,000 for 12-week courses

The Irish Haemophilia Society has urged the HSE to initiate a public tender to source new medicines to cure Hepatitis C.

The organisation’s chief executive Brian O’Mahony said the price being charged by manufacturers in Ireland for the newest HepC medicines was “unsustainably high.”

Manufacturers are charging the HSE between €45,000 and €80,000 for a 12-week course of the new medicines in various combinations, with a cure rate of 95 per cent.
