Ireland’s organ transplant rate fell below that of most western European countries last year.

Of 38 countries surveyed, Ireland was ranked 18th for all deceased and living organ transplantation, falling from 12th place in 2013.

According to the Council of Europe’s new figures on organ donation and transplantation, Ireland had 54 deceased and living organ transplants per million of population in 2014.
