Private nursing home operators have warned that the Fair Deal scheme, which is used by thousands of pensioners, would be put under severe funding pressure by an increase in the national minimum wage.

In private correspondence to Ged Nash, the minister for business and employment, Nursing Homes Ireland said it had “serious concerns” for the sector if the minimum wage was increased.
