Nurses pay to rise in deal that could save over €6m

Staff be paid for tasks usually done by non-consultant hospital doctors

Irish nurses will have to perform extra duties when the pay agreement comes into effect.

Nurses are set to receive an increase in pay after the HSE and the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) agreed a deal on a new allowance.

Under the proposed deal, which has yet to be sanctioned by the Department of Public Expenditure, nurses will be paid extra money to do tasks that are mainly done by non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs) at present.
