Only 20 per cent of directors at big Irish firms are women

A new survey carried out by the Central Statistics Office finds that only one in nine chief executives of large companies in Ireland are women.

The Gender Balance in Business survey, carried out for the first time this year, provides figures on gender representation at large companies – those with more than 250 employees.

Women occupied 11.5 per cent of chief executive positions at these firms, while only 7 per cent of board chairpersons were women. Previous research carried out by the University of Limerick found thatIreland was lagging behind other major countries on female representation in listed companies.
