The nurses’ union has disputed a claim by the head of one of the country’s biggest hospitals that it is inflating hospital overcrowding figures.

Tony McNamara, who is chief executive of Cork University Hospital, said the national figures were being deliberately inflated by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO).
