HSE cuts GP supervisors’ payments to pay for more training places
Pilot scheme proposed to allow more doctors to qualify as GPs by giving them credit for time spent in programmes
The HSE is planning to tackle the crisis in GP numbers by expanding the number of training places. To pay for the extra places, it wants to cut training allowances of over €14,000 that are paid to up to 300 GPs annually for supervising trainees.
The HSE is also proposing a pilot scheme which would allow more doctors to qualify as GPs by giving them credit for time spent in recognised training programmes.
