Hospital consultant posts lie empty as few candidates apply

The HSE was unable to fill at least one in four medical consultant posts advertised last year, due to a lack of interest in the posts from senior medics.
Stark figures provided by the Public Appointments Service (PAS), which runs recruitment campaigns on behalf of the HSE, show it was “unable to identify a suitable candidate” for 22 of the 84 posts that were advertised in 2016.
