Harris faces fresh doctors’ revolt in Portlaoise Hospital

A submission by senior doctors will heighten tensions over the future of the hospital

Minister for Health Simon Harris, is facing a revolt from doctors in the Midlands, where hospital consultants and medical groups have joined forces to stop plans to downgrade Portlaoise Hospital.

The intervention in the shape of a submission by senior doctors, including 24 out of 27 hospital consultants, will heighten tensions over the future of the hospital in advance of a soon-to-be-published review from healthcare regulator Hiqa.
