Up to 8,000 women with breast implants will be warned about cancer risk

Doctors will contact up to 8,000 women in the coming weeks, warning about evolving evidence that suggests the breast implants they received could cause cancer.

Some women received the implants after having mastectomies, while others had them inserted for cosmetic purposes.

The health service made the decision due to evolving evidence about what are called textured breast implants which have a slightly roughened surface.
