Wine, whiskey and seasonal supper clubs are all on the menu this month

Bo Barrett of Chateau Montelena, the iconic Napa Valley winery, will be in Dublin on February 19 for a tasting dinner at Wilde at The Westbury

Bo Barrett, head of the iconic Napa Valley winery Chateau Montelena, will be in Dublin later this month for a special dinner at Wilde at The Westbury hotel in Dublin city centre. The winery became a worldwide sensation when its chardonnay won the so-called ‘judgement of Paris’ wine tasting in 1976, an event that was dramatised in the 2008 movie Bottleshock.

Taking place on February 19, the dinner at Wilde will begin with a Charles Heidsieck champagne reception at 7pm, followed by a five course dinner paired with wines including the 2019 Chateau Montelena Potter Valley riesling, the 2019 chardonnay, 2018 zinfandel and 2017 cabernet sauvignon

Redbreast, the largest selling single pot still Irish whiskey in the world, is being celebrated from now until March 12 at the Horseshoe bar in The Shelbourne hotel in Dublin. Drop in for one of two tasting flights: the signature flight for €30, which includes tastings of Redbreast 12-year-old, 15-year-old and Lustau, or the premium flight for €75, with the 15-year-old, 21-year-old and 27-year-old.

On February 21, Ger Garland and Deirdre O’Carroll from the Midleton distilery will host an event in the Horsehoe that will include a Redbreast cocktail on arrival, a guided tasting of the premium flight, and a gift bag including a three-bottle selection pack and The Shelbourne’s bullet whiskey glass. Tickets are €150 per person via Eventbrite.

The popular Seasonal Supper Club at Killruddery near Bray in Co Wicklow is back, with dates available throughout February and March. The menu, inspired by produce from Killruddery’s walled garden, farm and local producers, is created by head chef Niall O’Sullivan and his team and showcases the best the house and gardens have to offer.

This is as local as it gets with vegetables from the walled garden, estate-reared meat and even flowers grown by head gardener Daragh Farren all featuring.
