The Royal State Visit of their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden to Ireland took place last month. The visit, on the invitation of President Michael D Higgins, was the second such in the history of the state and was designed to highlight the many links between Ireland and Sweden and to promote opportunities for bilateral learning and trade.
