With 25 different languages spoken by its 400 pupils, one primary school has used ICT to develop its own courses for teaching English as a second language
Killarney, often regarded as our tourism capital, is now a microcosm of today’s Ireland in at least one respect. It has become so cosmopolitan that in the local Holy Cross Mercy National School, there are 25 native languages spoken among the 400 pupils, not including English or Irish. As might be expected, the young children take all of this diversity for granted. To them, it’s just school and it’s normal.
