Jail escort plans face delay due to Dail recess

Plans to privatise jail escorts are likely to be delayed because emergency legislation will not be passed before the Dáil rises for the summer.

Sources in the Department of Justice and Leinster House conceded this weekend that the privatisation legislation proposed by Michael McDowell, the Minister for Justice, was now unlikely to be enacted before the autumn.
