EU’s Habitats directive is not a bar to development

Since the beginning of time, there have been five major extinctions on earth. The most recent was 65 million years ago, when the world lost about 75 per cent of all species, including the last of the dinosaurs. This pales in comparison with the one 250 million years ago, which wiped out maybe 95 per cent of all the different species on Earth. So why bring this up now?
