Equality at the forefront of EU policy

Since the Treaty of Rome was penned, establishing the European Economic Community 60 years ago, the principle of equality between men and women has been enshrined, aspired to and demanded. And not just in the workplace, but across European society.

Undoubtedly there have been advances, especially in countries such as our own where women working in the public service were forced to forfeit their jobs once they married.
