Can you describe your daily work routine?

Work routine is varied depending whether in the office or on customer site. Whilst leading cyber security engagements, it can be advising executive stakeholders on cyber risk to assisting functional teams to implement risk mitigations.

What is your professional background?

IT network security covering both corporate and industrial networks. Moved to a consulting role with Gemserv in 2006

Tell me about yourself away from work?

Married and live in Staffordshire UK. Spend many weekends in the mountains particularly Cairngorms in Scotland and nearer to home in the Derbyshire Peak District.

Tell us something very few people know about you?

My parents emigrated to Australia when I was young. Returned to the UK at age 16

but lost the Aussie accent fairly quickly.

You are speaking at the forthcoming Power Summit in Croke Park. What is the focus of your talk?

Cyber security, particularly the implications of the recent Network and Information Systems (NIS) laws which resulted from the EU NIS Directive.

What do you see as the main challenges ahead for Ireland’s energy market within the next 5 years?

Constraints around resource, particularly the skilled expertise needed to meet evolving cyber threats.

Can you comment on Brexit and the possible outlook for Ireland’s energy market?

Many stakeholders operate on both sides of the border and so from a cyber perspective it is imperative that cyber and privacy laws remain aligned. Indications are that this will be the case, but all countries must continue to cooperate against cybercrime and disruption.
