How long have you held the position?

I have been with Oxfam Ireland since January 2015 as a Data Analyst. I was made Data Protection Officer in 2017 as an extension of that role.

What are your day to day responsibilities?

Management of Oxfam Ireland’s GDPR implementation plan and maintenance of our reporting suite. As Business Intelligence Analyst I manage a suite of regular reports while managing ad hoc report requests and providing analytical input to multiple departments. As Data Protection Officer I am overseeing the process of preparing for the General Data Protection Regulations as well as managing day to day data protection tasks.

What is your professional background?

After over a decade of analyst experience in the Insurance sector before I moved to Oxfam Ireland. have over 9 years of experience as a Business Analyst and Management Information (MI) analyst in the insurance industry and am now working as a Data Analyst and Data Protection Officer for Oxfam Ireland. I am very technically minded and I've never met a problem that I didn't want to solve.

Tell me about yourself away from work?

Outside of work I'm an avid writer. My first novel, The Other Whisper, was published in November 2013. I also write tabletop RPG scenarios which have won awards at a number of Irish games conventions. I enjoy tabletop RPG’s and Live Action Role Play games. I write these games and run them at conventions across Ireland.

How to implement the GDPR when funding is tight and resources are limited.

What challenges do you see for organisations implementing the new regulations?

Besides the challenge of resources, we are an all island organisation with offices in Dublin and Belfast. The uncertain challenge of implementing GDPR post Brexit is one that we are acutely aware of.
