Budget 2018: Donohoe delivers a little to a lot
The budget was a balanced one, and a welcome relief after its extreme predecessors
It is easier to define Budget 2018 by what it is not, rather than what it is. It was not an austerity budget, nor a giveaway budget. It was not a budget marked by a profound ideological dogma, although it contained some subtle traces of political philosophy that I will touch upon later. It was not a budget of the left, nor a budget of the right in the purest sense. It was not a Brexit budget. Nor was it a budget of vested interests. And in truth, despite what some members of the opposition might say, it was not an election-ready budget either.
