Data Protection Commissioner to regulate TikTok for all of Europe
The DPC told the government in a pre-budget submission that it faced an uphill battle in its regulation of tech giants based in Ireland
Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) has agreed to take on the remit of being TikTok’s Europe-wide statutory regulator, it has confirmed.
The DPC advised TikTok in December that it had met the criteria to be regulated here. TikTok’s Irish company is now the joint data controller for all users in the European Economic Area and has established a privacy and data protection team in Ireland.
