Majority of low-pay workers are in mid to high-income households, professor says
The vast majority of workers who earned more from the pandemic unemployment payment than while working were likely to be part-time workers from middle to high-income households, an economist has said.
Seamus Coffey, a professor of economics at University College Cork (UCC), said that workers who earned less than the €350 weekly Covid-19 payment previously were unlikely to be full-time minimum wage workers and more likely to be students and second earners from higher income...
