HSE weighs up using alternative tests for Covid-19

Initiative may include antibody testing to help determine the true extent of the virus’s spread in nursing homes

In order to determine the true extent of Covid-19 in the homes alternative testing methods could be used

The HSE is to begin research into using alternative methods of testing for Covid-19 in an effort to determine the true extent of the virus’s spread in nursing homes and long-term residential centres.

The need for the study was raised at a meeting of the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) last month and a proposal will be submitted to the National Covid-19 Research Ethics Committee in the coming weeks.
