The retail picture in Ireland during the Covid-19 coronavirus confinement is a collocated one. Central Statistics Office figures from last week show supermarkets and online sales are booming but, obviously, pubs have been wiped out and the motor trade is also suffering.

Overall, the last month represents the biggest drop in retail sales since 2009 – but with motor sales excluded, retail sales volume decreased by just 1.9 per cent month-on-month.
