The technology behind a safer tomorrow

UV Medico’s UV-C lamp uses Care222 patented technology and is completely safe to use in occupied spaces

UV Medico, the future of disinfection

UV Medico are pioneers of the world’s safest Far UV-C light solutions which revolutionise bacterial disinfection and virus inactivation, keeping any kind of occupied space safe and infection-free.

There are many UV light disinfection products available on the market, but what is unique about UV Medico’s Far UV-C products is that they are completely safe to use in occupied spaces, said Liam Byrne, managing director, UV Medico.

Having spent 18 months researching available UV light disinfection products, the team found the UV Medico UV-C lamp to be by far the most proven technology.

These products offer a unique solution thanks to a patented technology called Care222.

Dr Liam Lewis of the Centre for Advanced Photonics & Process Analysis (CAPPA) at the Munster Technological University, Cork, said: “The opportunities for deployment of this technology are significant, and with its increased health and safety offering UV222 is likely to become a significant part of daily life in the near future.

“This is a very exciting development in the area of photonics applications. At CAPPA we are currently exploring a variety of commercial possibilities with regard to UV222, particularly in the food and environmental research spaces.”

The technology

Care222 is patented, one-of-a-kind disinfecting light technology endorsed by the World Health Organisation. The patented safety filter prevents leakage of all harmful UV wavelengths, making it safe for use in occupied spaces.

“It will treat a large volume of air and surfaces at once. No other product will do that,” said Byrne. “It is also behaviour independent. The performance of the product is equivalent to 35 air changes per hour in occupied spaces to disinfect all viruses and bacteria. It kills the microbes by damaging their DNA, making it impossible for them to replicate or spread.”

This revolutionary technology is harnessed into UV Medico’s UV disinfection lamp products, which require low energy and are sustainable, safe, easy to fit and low maintenance.

The technology has multiple uses across all employee welfare and industrial settings. It is ideal for pharmaceutical, office, healthcare, and agriculture but also food production, sporting environments, events, education and transport spaces.

Due to its broad application and flexibility, the product is already proven in the marketplace.

Avian flu

The product is not only safe in human-occupied spaces, but also in spaces occupied by animals – making it an ideal solution to combat swine, bovine, equine and bird infections, to name a few. With Ireland’s current avian flu outbreak, biosecurity measures and health and safety standards are a concern.

“UV222 lamps are effective for decontamination of most viruses,” said Christian Holm, Professor, PhD, at Aarhus University, Denmark. “This includes influenza viruses such as the one called avian flu. The UV222 lamps can be used to prevent spread of infections between birds, between birds and humans, and of course between humans.

“The UV222 lamps are a new technology that are human safe and can thus be used in populated areas to continuously decontaminate air and surfaces for infectious viruses and bacteria.”

Looking ahead

Recently developed is the UV disinfection booth, which is designed for use in the clean-room industry. “This was developed in conjunction with a world-leading Danish pharmaceutical company and is currently under consideration with a number of industry-leading companies in Ireland,” Byrne said.

There are also further exciting developments in the pipeline, including a handheld wound healing device and laser developments for use in the medical device industry.

In terms of EIIS, UV Medico is looking for initial funding in the amount of €1.5 million.

“The global UV disinfection equipment market is projected to grow from a 2019 level of $1.3 billion to $9.1 billion in 2027. This represents a compound annual growth rate of 28 per cent per annum,” Byrne said.

Given the above, quite conservative, growth estimate, UV Medico Ireland Limited –through their proven management team and unique technology solution – are superbly positioned to serve this high-growth market segment. Promoters Liam Byrne and Jason Sheehy are supported by a very experienced Ireland and UK marketing, sales and technical team.

“We are now seeking to raise funds to facilitate UV Medico’s further expansion in the Irish market and entry into the UK market. We plan on using funds raised or product promotion, marketing, direct sales, reseller engagement, working capital and future development in the sector,” Byrne said.
