No safety net for businesses snagged by fraudulent claims

Despite the ravages of Covid-19, the catalogue of exaggerated and plainly fraudulent claims has continued unabated in our courts, said chief executive of Isme, Neil McDonnell.

“As long as damages remain high and occupier’s liability remains unreformed, there will be a commercial incentive to sue for compensation,” he said. “Only the more egregious cases get chucked out by the courts, and the plaintiffs in these cases never discharge their costs.”
