A report by the World Economic Forum (WEF) published at its annual meeting in Davos last year projected that disruptive forces – including the rise of robots and artificial intelligence – will result in a net job loss of 5.1 million jobs by 2020.
The report assumed a total loss of 7.1 million jobs, offset by a gain of two million new positions, focused primarily on digital technology, computing, mathematical and engineering roles.
