Businesses across every sector continue to make changes as the global economy slowly gets back on its feet in a post-Covid world – and it is abundantly clear that adopting a sustainable approach is a crucial factor in how companies do business in the future.

With this in mind, Chambers Ireland has just published the shortlist for its Sustainable Business Impact Awards 2021. Sponsored by BAM Ireland, the awards will highlight the impactful and innovative ways in which businesses engage with the UN Sustainable Development Goals in their communities.

In total, 83 projects have been shortlisted across 14 award categories, with the winners announced at an online awards ceremony on Thursday, September 16.

Speaking about the awards, Mags Brennan, president of Chambers Ireland, said that in recent years, employees and wider society have come to expect more engagement by business on key issues that affect us all. “With that comes the opportunity to demonstrate initiative and lead by example. Through this leadership, strong foundations are built and our collective resilience is strengthened,” she said.

“The businesses shortlisted have faced a year full of disruption and uncertainty and have still managed to deliver on their continued commitment to sustainable practices. This has been to the benefit of their community, the climate and their staff. It is a proud moment for us to show the world just how impactful business can be even in such testing times.”

Theo Cullinane, chief executive at BAM Ireland, agrees and says the importance of sustainability runs deep at BAM.

“We are continuously impressed with the progressive sustainable initiatives showcased at these awards each year,” he said. “Our long–term sustainability ambition is to be a business that has an overall positive impact on society and the environment by 2050. As a long–term partner, it has been exciting to see sustainable philosophy become an increasingly important strategic focus of companies in Ireland. The business community has shown how responsive it can be and we are proud to continue to support these awards and highlight the great examples of sustainable practice it provides.

“We would like to congratulate all of the companies shortlisted for the Sustainable Business Impact Awards. To come this far demonstrates the significance of your work and the value of your leadership. It will inspire others to follow you and that is a major achievement in itself.”

The Sustainable Business Impact Awards showcase best practice in sustainable development and social responsibility undertaken by companies of all sizes across Ireland. The UN Sustainable Development Goals are at the heart of these Awards, celebrating sustainable business practices and championing Chambers Ireland’s alignment with the Goals.
