The wever fish is not the kind of specimen Steven Spielberg would have devoted his time to on screen but still there’s nothing like a hint of danger to pleasantly up the stakes of one’s afternoon

Getting bitten by a fish was not on my list of planned activities for last weekend. On Saturday afternoon, I felt a nip on my foot when I pushed down on the sand while out for a swim on Barley Cove beach in West Cork.

When I emerged from the water, I played it cool to S and my family about the biting sensation I had experienced for – oh – at least 50 seconds...
