Break-ups are always hard, but they can be particularly tricky if the person you’re trying to break up with happens to be yourself. There are points in our lives when it makes sense to let go of old goals or outdated ideas about who we thought we were, previous versions of ourselves. As with relationships we’ve outgrown, though, sometimes we can stay committed long past the point when we should have said goodbye.
