Almost four in five people who were watching TV in Ireland on November 27 were watching The Late Late Toy Show. A total of 2.4 million tuned in at some point – the equivalent of almost half the country's population – and it was the number one global trend on Twitter.

That should give RTÉ a claim to the title of most successful national broadcaster in the world, with the possible exception of North Korea. ...
