Bray Wanderers are in limbo this weekend, but their financial difficulties are indicative of a deeper malaise across the whole League of Ireland

Two-nil down at the break, but a highly impressive third in the League of Ireland table, last Friday night Bray Wanderers entered the dressing room still punching above their usual fighting weight. They wouldn’t know for another hour, but it was then that chairman Denis O’Connor saw fit to release a statement to the press bemoaning the local public support for the club, and finishing with a bizarre and ominous line that simply read: “What’s the point?”
