Volkswagen lost market share in Europe as its sales declined in October, the first full month since the carmaker’s emissions-cheating scandal became public.

The German manufacturer accounted for 25.2 per cent of new-car registrations in the region last month compared with 26.1 per cent a year earlier, the Brussels-based European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, or ACEA, said.
