The suspension of government services in the US has nothing to recommend it, except that it forces hard political decisions to be taken

Last week saw a continuation of the shutdown in government across the US. It isn’t terribly unusual for US government offices, services and facilities to be suspended, curtailed or even temporarily shut down from time to time because Congress couldn’t agree funding.
