Shortly after Donald Trump’s election, I shared a panel on the future of Irish-US relations in Washington DC with a senior RNC member who had worked on the campaign. He finished a meandering speech abruptly: “It’s going to be America first. Figure out what that is, plan from there, and we’ll be just fine.”
