Stand by your controllers: Galway-based game wizard John Romero is about to launch new levels of his 1993 classic Doom

Legendary games designer John Romero has been working hard in his Galway studio. He is planning to launch new levels of his groundbreaking 1993 shoot-em-up Doom in a new project called Sigil, in mid-February.

The free so-called megawad has nine new single-player and nine deathmatch levels. Romero, the man who also created Quake, moved to the west of Ireland from California four years ago with his wife Brenda, a Bafta-winning games designer.
