There was a time when Marks & Spencer, Tesco and Debenhams were true blue-chips on the British stock market, and their shares were owned by many Irish investors. They were powerful brands. They were reliable dividend payers, and they were trending consistently upward over the medium and long term, even if recessions held them back for a year or two from time to time.
