Rugby, it is said, is a game of inches. It’s all about precision and balance, whether the foot is in or out of touch, whether the ball was forward, whether the player was in the air when tackled. Events like a world cup make armchair pundits of us all. Acquiring and professing knowledge about a sport of which we would otherwise care little and know less is a big part of the fun.
