Steve Dempsey: Investors go Dutch with pick ’n’ mix for journalism

Despite the internet, newspapers are still pretty popular in the Netherlands. Half of Dutch households get news from paid-for newspapers – amounting to sales of 3.5 million copies. On top of this over one million free dailies are distributed every day.

But like everywhere else circulation and ad sales are dwindling and, as a result, some interesting ideas for rejigging journalism for an online age have popped up in Holland.
