A report from Retail Ireland has highlighted worries in the sector about declining footfall and a slowdown in consumer spending, despite what it described as “slow but steady” growth in the final quarter of last year.

The organisation said, however, that Irish retail had shown its resilience in recent years and rejected suggestions that the “death of retail” was imminent.
