Smurfit Kappa sees 6 per cent earnings hike in first quarter

Ebitda at paper packaging group up to €281 million from €266 million last year

Smurfit Kappa Group said this morning it expects “good earnings growth” in 2016 after posting a 6 per cent increase in operating profits in the first quarter.

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation at the paper packaging group increased to €281 million from €266 million for the year-earlier period.

Meanwhile, revenues rose 2 per cent to €2 billion.

The first indication of its performance this year has met consensus expectations among analysts.
